Diversity and Inclusion – PRAI
The Property Registration Authority (PRA) has continued to promote Diversity in all its facets, not least through formalising its Diversity and Inclusion Committee as part of its Governance Framework. This not only facilitates the PRA in meeting its Public Sector Duty obligations to its workforce but is also an important staff engagement mechanism. Speed texting was used at meetings to facilitate staff with hearing impairment and we continued to improve access to our buildings.
Once again in 2019 members participated in the Dublin Pride Parade and a mental health strategy was progressed with focus group sessions held our offices in Dublin, Waterford and Roscommon. The Strategy launched in July 2019. Information on all aspects of diversity was made available and grade and gender statistics were published on the staff intranet (OPRA). Meeting topics included a presentation by a member of the Defence forces on his experience as a married gay man in developing LGBT initiatives in his workplace. In line with our code of ethics in considering alternative viewpoints, a staff member presented on their faith based view.
In 2018, the PRA won a Legal Ireland Irish HR Award in the category of Best Diversity and Inclusion Initiative.
Currently our LGBT sub-group are working with their colleagues in other Government Departments to establish the first Civil Service Diversity and Inclusion Network. The Sub-group on Disability is working on a Disability Strategy for the PRA and the PRA will be hosting a Diversity & Inclusion Day in September 2019. As part of its work on promoting Diversity & Inclusion, members of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee have hosted information sessions in the PRA and have presented at various information sessions held in other organisations.
